Text Box: Alistair George McCorkell
Text Box: Alistair grew up with a lot of musical influence as his father Robert McCorkell was bandmaster at the Greenock East Corps of the Salvation Army.
From an early age, music was a big part of his life. He started playing the cornet then eventually moved onto euphonium.
Between the ages of 12 and 14 he was in demand as a euphonium soloist throughout Scotland after being Top Boy in 1962 at the National Summer School of Music.
Alistair followed in his fathers footsteps by becoming Bandmaster at the Greenock Citadel Corps of the Salvation Army where he served from 1978 to 1982.
In 1983 he founded the Inverclyde Christian Brass Band known to many as ICB. This band under Alistair’s leadership has had many tours to places such as Budapest, Germany and the United States of America. ICB has also featured on the BBC programme “Songs Of Praise”.
Alistair played euphonium at the Govan Citadel Corps of the Salvation Army from 1994 to 2000 under the leadership of Allan Ramsay.
In 2004 Brass Sounds Inverclyde was founded, with Alistair being invited to be the resident Conductor and Musical Director.
